Medical and Behavioral Health Screenings
Assessing the health-related needs of each individual
All jail booking officers in the State of Texas must question each
incoming individual about their mental health history and if they have
ever considered suicide. Additionally, nurses will also assess their
physical/mental health, substance use disorders, detox and so on to
better understand the individuals needs and concerns. Throughout this
process, the individual’s electronic medical records will be reviewed
and analyzed by the booking staff.
The Special Needs Form (previous "orange form") is intended to provide the
defense attorney, prosecutor, and court staff with additional information
regarding mental health. This allows criminal justice system to better
understand the needs of each individual in the legal process.
